Mr. Jay Davis - Featured Conductor

Jay Davis is currently enjoying his twenty-third year in education, tenth as the Director of Bands at Houston County High School in Warner Robins, Georgia. He holds degrees in Music Education (with honors) from Georgia College and State University and Auburn University, where he worked as a teaching assistant with the Auburn Band, and as a member of the Auburn Brass Quintet, the faculty ensemble. Prior to arriving at HCHS, Davis served as Director of Bands at Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy, Eagle’s Landing Middle School, and Lovejoy High School.

As Director of Bands at Houston County High School, he oversees 300 students daily. Bands under his direction have consistently received Superior ratings at adjudicated events throughout the southeast in both the concert and marching areas, including several Grand Champion honors. He also conducts the HCHS Wind Symphony, HoCo’s advanced ensemble, which has earned a reputation for excellence, twice receiving the GMEA Exemplary Performance Award.  The group has received invitations for performances at several regional and national events including: the Kennesaw State University Concert Band Festival, the Music for All Southeastern Regional Concert Festival, and the 2023 Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference. The Wind Symphony was also honored to be selected to perform at the National Band and Orchestra Festival, which was held at Carnegie Hall in New York in March of 2024.  The group most recently received invitations to perform at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga’s Tri State Honor Band and the Southeastern United States Honor Band Clinic at Troy University, both in 2025.

Davis holds or has held memberships in GMEA, the International Trumpet Guild, Kappa Kappa Psi (Honorary), National Band Association, Pi Kappa Lambda, and has served as a Province Governor for Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He has been as member and chair of the GMEA All-State Committee and was GMEA District Eleven Chair from 2018-2022. He has presented at the GMEA In-Service Conference on three occasions and currently serves as Vice President for All State Events for GMEA.   Davis is also active as a head adjudicator and clinician for GMEA events.  He has previously served on the Board of Directors for the Georgia College Alumni Association, the Jazz Association of Macon, and the community band, Tara Winds. Davis currently performs with the Wellston Winds, where he is a conductor. He was inducted into the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmaster’s fraternity in March of 2020 and received the National Band Association Citation of Excellence in January 2023.

Jay has been married to Dr. Tina Holmes- Davis, Associate Professor of Music Education at Georgia College, for 24 years. He is a proud dad to 20-year-old twins, Emma, a religious philosophy major, and Jonah, a music education major, who are both students at Georgia Southern University.
