Basketball Pep Band
The Basketball Pep Band, directed by Dr. Corey Spurlin, is a select group of brass and percussion players that perform at all men’s and women’s home basketball games, as well as NCAA and SEC tournaments. Members are chosen by audition each October from the marching band membership. One hour of academic credit is awarded for participation. This credit may be used as an elective in any curriculum.
The Basketball Pep Band is divided into two sections — the Orange Band and the Blue Band — of 30 players each. These two groups generally alternate performances at basketball games. For “big” games, the two groups converge to make one large pep band to rally the Auburn Spirit. The pep band offers students a chance to support the Auburn University Basketball teams, as well as the opportunity to travel with these teams during tournament season. During the 2007-08 school year, the pep band traveled to San Francisco, California, Nashville, Tennessee, and Atlanta, Georgia. The band has also ventured to such cities as Indianapolis, Chattanooga, New Orleans, Seattle, Boulder (CO), Stoors (CT), Memphis, and Ruston (LA).
